The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the recall process instituted against member representing Bebeji Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Abubakar Galadima Kuki, after his constituency wrote to the Commission withdrawing the petition against him.

INEC had last Friday received a petition for the recall of Kuki in accordance with the Commission’s Guidelines for Recall. However, in a statement signed by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Prince Adedeji Soyebi, INEC said it has suspended the process after the constituency wrote to withdraw the petition.

“Accordingly, the Commission will take no further action on the matter, the petition having been withdrawn,” the statement.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), yesterday, announced a shift in the date of the local government elections stating that it will now hold on November 18 instead of November 4.

KWSIEC chairman, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba said the commission took the decision following pleas from the electorate.

“I did brief you on the preparedness of the commission to conduct free, fair, transparent, peaceful and credible elections in the 16 local government areas in the state.

“However, shortly after the proclamation, my commission was awashed with emissaries from stakeholders, including individual electorate pleading with the commission to consider the interest of our Muslim brothers and sisters who are presently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia performing one of their religious obligations.

After listening to all the pleas and submissions, and in line with our promise to conduct a free, fair and credible elections, the commission came to a conclusion that to be fair to all and sundry and to give room for all-inclusive elections, there is the need to adjust our programme of activities.”
